Home network installation & data cabling

A wired network can connect a home office, television, games console or other equipment directly to your router or network switch. Ethernet cabling avoids relying on a wireless connection for each device, which can be useful where walls and distance affect Wi-Fi.

The number and position of data outlets should match how you use each room. Cat6 and other cable options need consideration alongside cable lengths, routing and the equipment they will connect to.

Wired access points can extend wireless coverage to areas away from the main router. Their position, power requirements and network connections need planning; adding cabling alone does not guarantee complete Wi-Fi coverage.

Internet speed also depends on your broadband service, router, connected devices and network equipment. A cabling installation cannot increase the speed supplied by your internet provider, although it may help make better use of your existing connection.

We consider cable routes, outlet locations and a practical central point for connections. Existing access and decoration affect how cables can be concealed, so discuss these before installation and confirm any making-good work in the agreed scope.

Testing and labelling help identify each cable run and make later changes easier. Tell us which rooms need connections, where your router is located and whether you also plan CCTV or other network-connected equipment.
